The belief that hard work brings monetary reward came from this heroic age. Ficinos translation of Platos writings from the traditional classic into Latin gave Western scholars their first chance to read the Hellenic philosopher since the fall of Rome. It was based on his translations and his generous benefactor Cosimo de Medici that the Platonic Academy was born.
